The Regional Advocacy Director will develop and expand HAF’s presence at the regional, state, and local levels in the designated geographic locations. Currently, we are seeking candidates for our Southwest Region (Texas). Candidates must reside in Texas, preferably in or near Houston, TX or Dallas, TX. This position reports to our Managing Director, Policy & Programs.
Primary responsibilities include designing and implementing advocacy and programmatic initiatives; and building relationships with key policy makers, interfaith, civil rights, and community leaders, in order to educate them about important issues of concern to the Hindu American community. This role requires an outgoing, highly energetic individual with excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Coordinate local Chapter activities and events in conjunction with volunteers and staff.
Build and leverage local relationships - Serve as a spokesperson and official representative of HAF for inter-organizational coordination with local temples, community groups, and interfaith and civil rights organizations, and to raise awareness of HAF’s work.
Advocacy and programmatic initiatives - Develop and coordinate, with guidance from senior staff and community programs staff, and carry out strategies to address issues affecting Hindu Americans in the areas of education, policy, and community. This will involve creating and implementing campaigns, mobilizing constituencies, and coordinating with other stakeholders and organizations as necessary to advance HAF’s strategic goals and objectives, and to address local community needs.
Work with staff and volunteers to build relationships with local media and respond to media inquiries as necessary.
Support senior staff in other projects, as needed.
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years' relevant work experience in the areas of Policy, Development, Communications, Community Organization, or Advocacy.
Deep, working knowledge of India and Hindu teachings, practices, and traditions. Hindu diaspora community outreach experience a plus.
Demonstrated excellence in communication, organization, and time management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to build and maintain strategic relationships and to work collaboratively with partner and interfaith organizations, temples, and community members on a range of issues.
Fluency in web-based productivity (G Suite), social networks, and communications (e.g., Google Meet and Chat, Zoom) platforms.
Works well in a close-knit team environment, but can complete tasks independently.
Ability and willingness to travel monthly and on weekends, when necessary. Proximity or easy access to major airports required.
